Durability
My standard paddles are lightweight, laminated and durable. Most are made using Nova Scotia white spruce and British Columbia red cedar. Various other woods (ash, walnut, cherry, oak) may also be used to provide strength.
The blades on my laminated paddles are finished with a lightweight fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin. The blade edges are also wrapped in fiberglass and epoxy. This technique has proven to provide strength and ensures a light-weight paddle.
Many of the paddles I built in the 1970's are still in use today, including those used in the harsh conditions of the Quebec Winter carnival ice races. I am confident in the quality and durability of my paddles.
I also custom build replica Beavertail and Voyageur designs, using a variety of laminated hardwoods, without the fiberglass epoxy reinforcement. I guarantee the durability of my paddles.
